Considered a masterpiece of Baroque architecture in Vienna, the palace was Prince Eugene's detached summer estate. Prince Eugene, a French-born 17th century military commander, was considered by Napoleon as being one of the 7 military geniuses of the world. After Prince Eugene's death, the palace was sold to Maria Theresa of the house of Habsburg in 1752.
